BARTOW, Fla., April 1 – Peace River Center (PRC), a licensed and nationally accredited, non-profit regional provider of behavioral health care and victim services is hosting three events during April to help educate the community and increase awareness of resources during Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
On April 18, community members can attend the PRC Rape Recovery Program’s Sexual Violence Community Convening. The large-scale event will take place from 10 am to 4 pm at The Bartow Civic Center, 2250 S Floral Ave, Bartow, FL 33830. The Sexual Violence Community Convening features speakers from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Instructors, and licensed therapists. Attendees will receive information on how to support survivors and resources should someone need help. The Sexual Violence Community Convening will include lunch and is provided at no cost to attendees. Registration is required and available by visiting www.PeaceRiverCenter.org/calendar/svcc2024.
On Wear Denim Day, April 24, PRC is partnering with Black & Brew, located at 4209 S Florida Avenue, Lakeland 33813, 205 E Main Street, Lakeland, 33801, and 100 Lake Morton Drive, Lakeland 33801 to host Messages of Hope from 10 am to 5 pm. Attendees will have the opportunity to write messages of hope on denim squares, which will be turned into a display quilt for survivors of sexual assault. PRC is asking the community to show their support and spread the word about the importance of taking a stand with survivors by wearing denim.
