USDA Rural Development Donates 1,138lbs of Food to PRC
Posted on 10/6/2011
Peace River Center clients will benefit from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Davenport Office and area business partner Florida Home in Partnership Inc.’s food drive. The food collected by USDA Rural Development was part of “Feds, Farmers and Friends Feed Families,” a three month nationwide initiative to encourage federal employees to donate non-perishable food items for delivery to local food banks and community support centers. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack announced the intent of the summer drive is to help local food banks, food pantries and soup kitchens meet increasing demands during a period of the year when donations can be limited. The agency’s Davenport office and business partner Florida Home in Partnership Inc. collected an estimated 1,138 pounds of non-perishable food items and Peace River Center was selected to receive this donation. The non-perishable food items were delivered to Peace River Center on October 6, 2011 and will be distributed to families in need participating in programs through Peace River Center.
