FACT Team 10 Year Anniversary
Posted on 7/28/2011
This month marks the 10th anniversary of Peace River Center’s Florida Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) Team. On July 22, 2011 a celebration was held to honor the 10 year anniversary of Lakeland’s FACT Team at Peace River Center’s Gilmore Annex Building. The FACT program was started to promote, develop, and support high quality assertive community treatment that improves the lives of people with serious and persistent mental illness to help them live independently and to their full potential. There are currently 94 clients under the care of the Lakeland FACT Team’s 13 staff members.
For the last 10 years, the program has operated 7 days a week providing services such as life skills, case management, housing assistance, therapy, linkage to medical services, medication management, psychiatric services, and vocational assistance. FACT has a variety of success stories ranging from clients grocery shopping for the very first time, to individuals fully living on their own and managing everyday responsibilities using skills learned through FACT.
Peace River Center’s Chief Executive Officer, Gilbert Sierra, is proud of the hard work and dedication of the FACT Team in the community, “I applaud the success of FACT members and staff. They are proof that community mental health treatment works.” Donna Rininger is Peace River Center’s Director of Intensive Outpatient Services, and has been overseeing the FACT Team since its inception in 2001. The FACT Team continues to push forward, reducing hospitalization, homelessness, and criminal incarceration for clients served.
